The History of Matt
Matthew James Heislen
I was born in Milwaukee, WI on Aug. 2nd 1968 just before 7:00 A.M. on a hot summer morning I came into this world to add style to your life.
As a only child I was a very imaganative kid with lots of time to spend drawing or playing alone I would up root are lawn to make roads for my hot wheels and lego houses. As I grew older I built scale model cars that I would customize with great skills. Later in life the skills would help me in the visualization of changes to existing plans and new home designs with working out any problems.
In high school I excelled in all of the art classes at my school I then attended the Milwaukee Art Museum "Art Satellite Program" I attended class daily at the museum my senior year. Other interest included drafting, wood working, graphic arts, commercial arts and ceramics.
After high school I attended the Auto Body program at M.A.T.C. this was going to get me into the custom car business and to be like Chip Foose on the T.V. show OverHauled. After building some really cool cars over the years, I had a back injury and needed to look for another career.
This lead me back to my drawing and drafting skills. I enrolled in the Architectural Associate Degree program that I immediatelyexcelled at! I then acquired a position at Security Homes as a draftsman and quickly advanced my skills and knowledge. Then I looked to greater heights with taking positions at Westridge Builders and Trustway Homes. After working over 6 years in the builders offices and gaining the skills of all parts of the home building business. I now had only one more thing left to do!
The adventure started in 1999 when I had the idea of my own company with only one person work on a customers home plans from start to finish. This lead me to start Heislen Designs with understanding that your important information about how you and your family live will never be passed off to someone else. You and your family are the most important part of the design phase.
In the 18 years of designing over 700 luxury custom homes, in all I find two things that makes each home unique and different. The first is the home owners individual style, likes, and hobbies. To include this into the design stage of the home will result in a different plan every time! The second most important part is the placement of the house views you will experience from each part of the house how the sun and shade will act with the house over the day and year on a particular plot of land makes a big difference.
In all of my designs I listen to the needs of the owners before I draw anything! I work with the owners ideas and then start drawing the floor plans first, then the front elevation in a simple preliminary drawing first.
Once Your layout is approved by you, the design then starts the working drawings phase of the plans. This includes a very high level of details to assure that all of your important details will be addressed during the building of your new home.
You are welcome to build with one of the recommended builders from Heislen Designs, or a builder of your choice, you own the plans.
Sincerely,
Matthew Heislen
